A Living Spice Sanctuary

Kolamadala Spice & Herbal Garden spans several lush acres in the historic hills of Matale — the heart of Sri Lanka's spice growing industry. Every botanical specimen is cultivated organically using traditional agroforestry methods dating back millennia.

Our resident naturalists lead you along shady garden paths, introducing you to the living plants behind the world's most sought-after spices: true Ceylon Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), Queen of Spices Green Cardamom, bold black peppercorn vines, and exotic vanilla orchids.

Along the garden trail, you will also discover our traditional small tank (wawa) — a serene freshwater pond with water lilies that naturally nourishes the estate, cools the breezes, and offers a peaceful photography stop.
